January 30 marks the big day for a cancer benefit planned by friends, family and coworkers for Jerauld County Highway Department employee Jay Kannenberg, of Wessington Springs, SD. Kannenberg was diagnosed with stage 2 esophageal cancer on October 23, 2020.
The event will take place Saturday at 12 p.m. with a free-will taco bar at the American Legion. A pool tournament will follow, with registration from 12 p.m. - 1 pm. The cost to participate is $20 and the tourney starts at 2 p.m.
Along with the pool tournament, a silent auction, a gun raffle and 50/50 cash drawing is also slated for the day. The auction begins at 1 p.m. and final bids must be placed by the conclusion of the pool tourney. The gun raffle closes with the silent auction.
Later that night, the Sons of American Legion’s 50/50 drawing that coincides with the Bed Post Queen drawing will direct half the proceeds of the drawing to Jay. Weston Frank Live will provide musical entertainment starting at 9 p.m.
