Pastor Easter joins IBC

Pastor Mike Easter is shown above in the sanctuary at Immanuel Baptist Church. He began serving as the church’s pastor in September of this year after moving from Antelope Springs Church in Roseville, CA.

As Mike Easter reflects on his calling as not only the new pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Wessington Springs, but also his initial path to ministry in his hometown of Roseville, California, he reveals that he never expected, or even wanted to be a pastor.

But God had other plans.

Rewind to 2004, when Easter was serving his community as a police officer in Roseville. He, wife Becky and seven-year-old son Chance had recently welcomed six-week old baby girl Faith into their family.

While on duty, Officer Easter was pursuing a narcotics suspect fleeing a shopping center parking lot. The suspect had a big advantage however —  he was in a vehicle and Easter was on foot.

“I’m still not sure what made me think a badge and a drawn gun would stop a suspect driving a car nearly 30 mph,” Easter laughed wryly. “After the car struck me, as I was flipping through the air, I distinctly remember thinking I should be doing something with more eternal consequences.”
