From the Valley to the Rainbow and the Foothills in Between
Weekend Celebrations Unite Area Communities
“Something for everyone” was the unofficial theme of the weekend  with a flurry of festivities filling folks’ schedules across Gann Valley, Lane and Wessington Springs.
The many musical talents of Mollie B. drew huge crowds to the American Legion / Prairie Lounge on both Thursday and Friday nights for a bona fide Polka Party.
Lane and Gann Valley both hosted action-packed, family fun with Gann Valley’s 136th anniversary celebration kicking off Saturday June 26 with a parade at 10 a.m. Held in conjunction with the anniversary celebration, the Kyle Evans Memorial Wagon Train joined in on the parade.
After the parade, a kids pedal tractor pull, bean bag toss, 4-wheeler obstacle course contest and spit-shine car show followed the parade despite a slightly soggy event site after receiving some much-needed rain.  A community, free-will supper was held from 5 - 7 p.m. and the Gann Valley Fire Hall played host to a dance that lasted well into the evening featuring the Company Cowboys.
Also on Saturday, Lane hosted their first annual Leap to Lane festival.  Musical trio Mogen’s Heroes added to the fun as the day unfolded with chicken races, a bean bag tournament, a gun raffle and karaoke.
The Legion Riders also hosted a poker run that benefits local youth sports and organizations  and a golf tournament at Springs Country Club raised funds for Wessington Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
