When avid Prairie Yard and Garden fan, Brenda Fagerhaug, was viewing an episode of the horticulture show last year, it dawned on her that Shakespeare Garden would be a perfect subject for an upcoming show. When the Wessington Springs woman shared the idea with daughter Loree Gaikowski, they decided they’d give the producers a call.

“We pitched Shakespeare Garden last summer and it is really gratifying to see the producers here filming a year later,” said Gaikowski, who was on site for part of the filming session alongside her mom last August.

In its 37th season, Prairie Yard and Garden (PY&G) is a top-rated horticulture program produced by Pioneer PBS headquartered in Granite Falls, MN. Hosted by Mary Holm, PY&G travels throughout the upper Midwest to bring together researchers, industry professionals and gardening enthusiasts to share the experiences and beauty of horticulture, and to inspire new growth of understanding of the many benefits and challenges of growing plants in the upper Midwest. Episodes are available year-round and can be watched anytime, anywhere on our video. pioneer.org portal or on our YouTube channel.

“The series is evergreen. When we choose a topic, we devote the whole show to it,” said the program’s Executive Producer Mike Cihak. “We do 13 shows each season and follow a formula so that viewers can walk away and learn something. We’re excited to feature Shakespeare Garden and introduce this gem of a place to a much wider audience.”

The show featuring Shakespeare Garden will air on SDPB Thursday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m.
