A weekend blizzard disrupted post-Christmas travel plans for many folks in Jerauld County and across the Midwest, closing much of I-90 and causing the South Dakota Department of Transportation to issue no travel advisories across the state.
The winter storm began Friday night and brought about an inch of snow, with snowfall continuing to build throughout Saturday, dumping six inches.
The wind whipped up on Sunday, creating blizzard conditions and bringing five more inches of snow. The official tally from weather recorder for Wessington Springs, Kathy Voorhees, is 12 inches of snow and .96 inches of total moisture for the weather event.
On the bright side, the forecast for the first day of 2020 calls for highs in the 30s along with some sunshine.
