The Wessington Springs School District Board of Education unanimously agreed to advertise for bids for the auxiliary gymnasium/rec center project during the November 15 regular board meeting held in the middle/high school auditorium.

Earlier this year, the board took ownership of the project from Build Springs, a non-profit fundraising committee that has raised approximately $600,000 for the construction of a rec center at the elementary school site.

According to the school board, two primary drivers of the rec center project are: to improve student athletic programs that suffer from inadequate gym time and inconsistent practice; to fill the need for an accessible, community health and wellness center.

Bids for the project are due on January 6, 2022 at 1 p.m. The board is scheduled to open bids at 2 p.m. that same day at the Wessington Springs High School. The Invitation to Bidders is published in this week's print and e-issue on PAGE SEVEN
