On Jan. 14, a fire between Hettinger, ND and Lemmon, SD consumed over 20,000 acres of hay fields, hay bales, shelter belts, crops still in the fields, pasture and grassland.

Wessington Springs United Methodist Church put out the call to serve our neighbors to the north in their time of need by asking for hay donations as well as monetary donations to cover fencing supplies as well as fuel/transportation costs.

Locals answered in a big way, with hay donations made by the following individuals: Randy Burnison, Gerald Kraft, Brett Heezen, Phil Wipf, John Christensen      Stuart Wolter, Wade Klein. Trucks, trailers and drivers were an integral part of the job and the following was donated: Steve Roduner (truck, trailer, driver), Rick Dunsmore (truck, driver Matt Waters), Todd Grohs (truck, trailer, driver Travis Pollard), Rex Zastrow Family (truck, driver Derek Zastrow), Spring Valley Colony (trailer on Zastrow truck)

Monetary donations were also collected and helped buy fuel for the round trip.

More donations are needed, contact Randy Burnison at 605-350-6978 if you would like to be involved.
