Pride heads to DC

Schafer wins Congressional Art Competition

No stranger to winning awards for her artwork, last week’s prestigious award announcement is something “that hasn’t set in yet” for Wessington Springs High School junior Kenzee Schafer: her oil/acrylic painting “Pride”  is the South Dakota winner of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition.

The contest was open to all South Dakota high school art students. Kenzee’s winning piece will be hung in the United States Capitol building for one year She’s also  invited to a reception, exhibit opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony highlighting her artwork and the other winning art pieces from the rest of the 49 states.

The Congressional Art Competition is sponsored by members of the U.S. House of Representatives to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation.
