The Spartan Girls basketball team picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday, December 17  over Iroquois/Doland by a score of 36-25.   Through three quarters, it was a close game with Iroquois/Doland leading by a score of 22-20 going into the fourth quarter.   However, the Spartans put together a good fourth quarter, outscoring Iroquois/Doland by a score of 16-3.   Grace Gran led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
On Thursday, December 19, the Spartans traveled to Hitchcock and were defeated by a score of 50-25 at the hands of Hitchcock-Tulare.   The Spartans had a slow start to the game but were able to keep it close going into halftime trailing 20-15.  However, Hitchcock-Tulare outscored the Spartans 18-6 in the 3rd quarter to break the game open.  Avery Orth led the scoring with 10 points and Piper Jones had 5 rebounds. 
On Saturday, December 21, Mitchell Christian came to town and defeated the Spartans by a score of 41-31.  Again the Spartans had a slow start trailing 8-2 after the first quarter.  The second quarter was played more evenly and the score was 16-10 going into halftime.  The Spartan offense struggled in the third quarter and trailed by 11 going into the fourth quarter.   The Spartans attempted a comeback but could not quite get it done and ended up losing 41-31.  Kirstie Munsen and Grace Gran each had six points. Piper Jones and Makayla Dornbush each had six rebounds.    
The next action for the Spartans is December 28 when they host Colome in a girls/boys doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. 
Last week the Spartan girls JV game went 2-0. On Tuesday, they defeated Iroquois/Doland by a score of 37-9.   Avery Orth led the scoring with 12 points and Harlee Heim had 10 points.   
On Thursday they defeated Hitchcock-Tulare by a score of 30-27.   Avery Orth had eight points and Kirstie Munsen had six points.
