It’s no secret that Wessington Springs is the home of many talented student artists, and after competing in the fifth annual State Visual Arts Competition, Wessington Springs High School (WSHS) placed fifth as a team in the B School Division and five local high school students brought home accolades to illustrate that point.

“We took out eight projects in different divisions, and five of our eight kids received placings,” said WSHS Art Instructor Alicia Roesler. “The contest places out to fifth place, with the top three receiving medals.”

WSHS students brought home the following prizes within the Class B School Division:

1st Place Drawing Colored – Maddie Neely

2nd Place Watercolor Painting – Angie Paulson

2nd Place Oil/Acrylic Painting – Houston Mees

4th Place 3-Dimensional Art – Piper Jones

4th Place Functional Ceramics – Brock Stevens
