Springs’ Dylan Schimke (shown above) broke a 3-3 deadlock when he slid into home in the top of the eighth inning during Monday’s game. Springs went on to score another run and held on with the help of relief pitchers Garret Brandenburg and Mason Schelske.  

Wessington Springs takes on Kimball/White Lake today, 7/31, 2 p.m. @ David Jost Field
Hundreds of baseball fans from around the region filled the grandstands at David Jost Memorial Field Monday and Tuesday as Wessington Springs hosted the South Dakota VFW 16U Class B Northwest Region Teener Baseball Tournament.
It took extra innings, but the Wessington Springs VFW Teeners outlasted Kimball/White Lake in the first round of the tournament on Monday, emerging victorious 5-3. 

Wessington Springs got things moving in the first inning, when Clay Olinger singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Kimball/White Lake evened things up at three in the bottom of the sixth inning. Coen Harvey was on the hill for Springs. He went five and a third innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out six and walking one. 

In round two of tournament action, Wessington Springs faced off against Onida, taking the lead on a single in the first inning, and winning the second round contest 7-1.
