Spartans bring home four top awards including first overall

Donning new uniforms and outfitted with a desire to perform at their very best, the Wessington Springs Middle/High School Marching Band dominated the Missouri Valley Marching Festival held in Platte last week, winning the top prize in all categories within the B Division: Outstanding Drum Major, Outstanding Drum Line, Outstanding Flag Corp, Division B First Place Overall

“This is the first time we’ve won everything in the division,” said Renee Munsen, band teacher. “The students had competed in a contest the previous day, earning second place but knew they made some mistakes. A lot of time went into talking about how to fix it, and they ended up sweeping the contest.”

The award-winning marching band will be performing “Just Dance” at the homecoming halftime show at Spartan Field on October 16. The following day, they will compete in a virtual contest which will round out their season.

“They worked really hard and it definitely shows,” Munsen said. “I look forward to the community coming out at homecoming and seeing them perform at the field show in person.”
