Gerrard, for whom Doering clerked while attending law school, introduced Doering at the ceremony and shared background on his career and service to the college.
When Shannon L. Doering graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1992, a legal career that would eventually include corporate leadership, teaching hundreds of law students and recognition among Nebraska’s legal community still lay ahead. More than three decades later, the WSHS alumnus has recently received two significant honors recognizing not only what he has accomplished professionally, but the time he has devoted to the profession and the next generation of attorneys.
Doering, a 1996 graduate of Dakota Wesleyan University and 1999 graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Law, currently serves as vice president and general counsel for NEBCO Inc. in Lincoln, Nebraska.
In April, his alma mater presented him with its Outstanding Service Award, one of the highest honors the College of Law bestows upon a friend of the college. The award recognizes “loyalty, leadership and service to the College of Law.”
Doering has maintained a connection with Nebraska Law well beyond his years as a student. He is a longtime instructor in the college’s Legal Analysis, Writing and Research Program, where he has worked with hundreds of first-year law students. He also coaches students on the Nebraska Law National Moot Court Team.
Then in August came another distinction: Doering was selected as a Fellow of the Nebraska State Bar Foundation.
Only 30 lawyers are selected annually for the honor. Candidates are nominated by current Foundation Fellows, with selections based on integrity and character, distinction within the legal profession or community, contributions to the profession or community and contributions to the Nebraska State Bar Foundation. Geographic representation is also considered.
