Peeking Into the Archives
The picture above was originally published in the True Dakotan on October 18, 1983. Forty years later, Joyce Rogers reignited the story by bringing the clipping into the True Dakotan office and taking a few minutes to share some tales from yesteryear.
The Rogers twins, Homer (Joyce’s husband) and Omer looked so much alike that everyone mistook their identities. Homer used to work at the co-op in Alpena as a driver and one day while he was out on deliveries, his brother Omer pulled into the co-op in a red, sporty car to fill up his tank. Just as he was about finished, Homer’s supervisor came up and slapped Omer on the back, asking what he thought he was doing and why he wasn’t making deliveries. Omer quickly turned on the supervisor, told him to keep his hands to himself and then left in a huff.
Later after completing his deliveries, Homer returned to the co-op, unsuspectingly having to face a confrontation with his supervisor. His boss told him he didn’t appreciate Homer speaking so gruffly to him — much to Homer’s surprise. He hadn’t a clue that his twin brother had been mistaken for him!
Joyce Rogers added that this wasn’t an isolated incident. In fact, she shared that the brothers “fooled a lot of people, even the game warden.”
