American Legion Auxiliary Meeting Notes

Submitted by acting secretary, Eileen Schooler

The American Legion Auxiliary met at the North apartments on Monday, January 15, 2024 with 10 members present. President Judy Winegar called the meeting to order then the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble to the Constitution were recited. There was discussion of Girls State candidates – Eileen Schooler made a motion, seconded by Verla Barber to pay the $175 fee for any Junior girl who wants to attend. We will donate $25 to the Museum in memory of member Alice Willman. The District meeting will be in Plankinton on 3/17/2024. 600 poppies were purchased and Thank You to Mary Lou Cameron who has made them into wreaths for upcoming Memorial Day services.

It was noted that we currently have 119 current members which puts us over our 100% goal! Well done to our Membership Committee! Americanism essays/poems for the school are due at the end of February and we will check to see if there is interest at the schools for the Poppy poster contest. The Winter Conference will be held in Deadwood in February. Mary Lou Cameron was previously selected as our District Member of the year – this year we will nominate and submit our long term outstanding member Verla Barber. The next meeting will be held on March 18, 2024. Please be sure to turn in your volunteer hours and money donated at that time. This is very important not only on the State level, but the Federal level as well.
