City of WS Awarded Funding for Drinking and Clean Water Projects

Last week, the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) announced that the Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved $139,791,400 in loans and grants for drinking water, wastewater, and solid waste projects in South Dakota, including two projects in Wessington Springs.

Funds were awarded from DANR’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program, Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program, Consolidated Water Facilities Construction Program, Water Environment Fund, and Solid Waste Management Program.

Wessington Springs Receives 80% Loan Forgiveness for Cast Iron and Asbestos Cement Pipe Replacement 

Wessington Springs also received a $1,565,000 Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan with $1,259,000 in principal forgiveness to replace approximately 3,800 feet of asbestos cement and cast-iron pipe. This will complete the city’s ongoing transition to PVC pipe. The loan terms are 3.0% for 30 years.

Sewer Lagoon Project Qualifies for SRF Loan 

Wessington Springs also received a $1,245,000 Clean Water State Revolving Fund loan to improve their wastewater treatment system. These improvements include the drainage system around the ponds, reshaping and stabilizing pond berms, and replacing electrical and mechanical components of the lift station. The loan terms are 3.75% for 30 years.
