A well-attended bake sale held Friday in Wessington Springs at city hall brought out community members eager to support local high school students preparing to compete on the national stage. The fundraiser was organized to help cover travel expenses for members of the Wessington Springs FCCLA chapter who qualified to attend the National FCCLA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida.
Students representing the local chapter at nationals include Mercedes Jones, Karter Mebius, Branden Flowers, Robert Hine, Richard Cardona, Sam Poncelow, and Kendall Kolousek. The competition will take place July 5–11.
Homemade treats made by FCCLA members and their families, as well as advisor Charlotte Mohling, were quickly scooped up.
Additional fundraising efforts are underway. The group will host a community sendoff breakfast at the Wessington Springs Fire Hall on Sunday, June 29. FCCLA members are also serving concessions at upcoming Teeners and Springs Owls home baseball games. The Teeners play Wednesday, June 18, and the Owls take the field at home again on Sunday, June 22.
