A full weekend of family-friendly activities is planned as Foothills Days returns Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7-8, with events throughout Wessington Springs.
The weekend begins Friday with the X-Mayor's Classic Golf Tournament at the Springs Country Club. The tournament is made possible through the support of area sponsors, including Simplot and TylerFastnacht,Slippery’s and Sean McDannel, R & B Seeds (Channel) and Brian and Rebecka Havlik, Heartland Power, Helms & Associates Engineering, Mid Dakota Rural Water System, SPN & Associates Engineering, Rodney Yost Horsemanship Clinic and Rodney and Erin Yost, Brosz Engineering, Civil Engineering and Surveying, Pheasant Hills Lodge and Clay and Hope Wenzel, American Bank & Trust, Agtegra Cooperative, Mustang Disaster Cleanup, Westendorf Electric and Al Westendorf, Christensen Charolais and Wade and Christina Christensen, Springside Sales and Todd and Hilary Grohs, Venture Communications Cooperative, Kimball Livestock Exchange LLC, Wade and Christina Christensen and Chad Heezen, Hegg Insurance, Wilbur-Ellis, CHS Inc., and Brian and Kathy Bergeleen.
Fun continues that evening at the ninth annual Wessington Springs Volunteer Fire Department Fun Fest from 6-10 p.m. at the fire hall.
Also on Friday, the SACOTA Art & Photography Showcase opens with a public viewing at 1 p.m. and a reception and open house at 6 p.m. at The Art Loft on Main Street.
The evening wraps up with a free Movie in the Park featuring Jurassic Park at 10 p.m., with popcorn and drinks sponsored by BankWest.
Saturday's activities include citywide rummage sales, the SACOTA Art & Photography Showcase, Sweets for a Cause and the annual Ribfest at the city park.
Ribfest contestants will begin cooking Saturday morning, with ribs available for public tasting beginning at 4:30 p.m. Additional activities include a cornhole tournament, a beer garden hosted by the Wessington Springs Area Chamber and Development, Teno's Tacos food truck, live music by Brett Miller from 6 - 6:30 p.m., and Bad Habits from 7 - 11 p.m.
