Meet This Semester’s WSHS Journalism Students

Wessington Springs High School journalism teacher Devena Jackson (center) is pictured with her students, from left, Ethan Amick, Gavin Brandenburg, Damien Knippling and Zandon Beyer, during a visit to the True Dakotan office.

The group met with Editor and Publisher Kristi Hine to discuss upcoming story ideas and the skills they will be developing this semester, continuing a relationship between WSHS students and the True Dakotan that spans more than a decade.

With a strong interest in video storytelling, the students set a goal of publishing a written article with an accompanying digital feature for each topic they cover. Hine said she is excited to have the students contributing photos and video that add a new layer to school coverage and thanked Jackson for being open to trying new approaches while also helping students build strong journalism skills.

Their first article appears on PAGE EIGHT

of this print and e-edition. Readers are encouraged to follow the True Dakotan on social media to watch the students’ digital features as they are released.
