Rooted in Service, FFA Members Clean Up Stratton Park Months After Storm

Members of the Wessington Springs FFA Chapter spent Saturday, Nov. 15, cleaning up Stratton Park, tackling storm debris that had remained since a severe summer storm downed century-old trees and crushed the park’s footbridge.

The service project focused on clearing fallen branches, removing damaged wood and restoring the appearance of the longcherished green space located along Main Street West, adjacent to the Carnegie Library. The storm left the once-scenic area scarred for months, but thanks to the students’ efforts, the park is once again tidy, welcoming and safe for visitors.

FFA advisor Brady Duxbury said the project gave students a chance to support the community while helping reclaim a park many generations have enjoyed. It also helps earn students a spot on the roster of the FFA trip to Rodeo Rapid in February 2026.
