Baby Finches Win Over Hearts of Main St. Residents and Visitors
At first glance, the wall ornaments on Twila Whitehead’s patio at the Apollo Apartments located on Main Street in Wessington Springs is simply outdoor decor. But upon closer investigation, the top left sculpture within the frame shown at right, has been transformed into a home for five baby house finches.
The goings-on of the baby birds has caused quite a stir, as not only guests at the Apollo Apartments Airbnb have delighted in watching the mother finch swoop in to feed them but employees at Springs Food Market and True Dakotan have enjoyed following their growth from hatching, to this week, now attempting to leave the nest.
