A sweet idea from one local student is helping preserve essential services for the community.
Wessington Springs Elementary School student Rhaelyn Waters is hosting “Sweets for a Cause” on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at 611 Main Street East. The event will feature bars, cookies, apple crisp, water, and hot cocoa, with all proceeds benefiting the Springs Area Bus Service.
The fundraiser comes at a critical time. After the June 24 announcement that Meals on Wheels deliveries and Sunday transportation to worship services would be discontinued without securing $1,500 in monthly funding, concern quickly grew within the Wessington Springs community. Thanks to generous donations received, ROCS shared that both services will continue — Sunday church rides are now funded into November, and five-day-a-week meal deliveries are covered into December.
Waters hopes her bake sale will add to that effort while giving neighbors the chance to enjoy homemade treats and support their community.
