Annual Kyle Evans Memorial Wagon Train rolls on this weekend

Hundreds of horse-drawn wagons and riders on horseback will unite together again to make their way along this year’s route for the much-loved Kyle Evans Memorial Wagon Train.

This year’s starting point for Friday and Saturday morning is located at Harmony Friends Church. From Wessington Springs, take Highway 34 west nine miles to 372nd Avenue, then go north three miles to 225th Street. The church and campsite are located on the west side of the road. There will also be signs indicating where to turn.

The public is welcome and encouraged to bring lawn chairs to enjoy concessions served up by area churches along with a raffle on Friday night.

Saturday morning, the wagon train will roll on towards Wessington Springs, with an approximate arrival time of 3 p.m. The route will take the train by Weskota Manor Avera so that nursing home residents have a chance to witness the annual event. The ride continues towards the Foothills 4-H Rodeo Grounds, just in time for the Bud Light Bull Bash that begins at 6:30 p.m.

Bud Light Bull Bash

Cowboys from around the region will be competing in the year-end finals of the Territorial Professional Bull Riders Association as the annual Foothills Bud Light Bull Bash begins at the Jerauld County 4-H Grounds in Wessington Springs on Saturday, September 10. The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a Bull Bash Calcutta.

The Foothills Rodeo Committee is hosting the event and as with all of the other Foothills Rodeo sanctioned events, funds generated at the event will eventually return to the rodeo grounds and the community. Past improvements made by the committee include a new arena at the rodeo grounds, new bucking chutes, back pens and bleachers.

Twelve of the top riders will compete in two rounds for the year-end title. The rider with the highest score will receive a buckle from the Tyler and Tucker Easton family.

Concessions will be available on the grounds and will be served by volunteers from area churches and the Wessington Springs Volunteer Fire Department. No coolers, please.

A Bull Bash Dance will follow the TPBRA event and will be held at the American Legion / Prairie Lounge beginning at 10 p.m. the night of the Bash. See the ad in this issue for more information on PAGE EIGHT
