A longstanding tradition spearheaded by City of Wessington Springs Mayor Brian Bergeleen during his first tenure as mayor in the 1990s, the Mayor’s Classic began as an effort to showcase the amenities, beauty and people of Wessington Springs. “It all started so we could bring in people from out of town, meet some of our local folks and get to know Wessington Springs,” said Bergeleen. In its ninth year in 2023, the tournament drew 80 golfers for 18 holes of golf, lunch and supper, plenty of prizes, fun and fellowship.
