Raising funds for Denver

Members of the Wessington Springs Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Chapter and their advisor, Charlotte Mohling, are set to attend the National Leadership Conference in Denver, Colorado from June 29 to July 7. As part of their fundraising efforts to pay for the trip, students sold concessions at last weeks Teeners game held at David Jost Field in Wessington Springs.
This year, eight members will be attending/competing at the National Conference with the hopes of bringing home the gold.
Five of the members attending will be competing in the FCCLA LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl Competition. The team, made up of Jack Neely, Carson Hainy, Haleigh Mulder, Kirstie Munsen and Riley Roduner, qualified to compete at Nationals after competing in Columbus, Ohio and is one of the top 16 teams in the nation.
Members Carissa Scheel and Mercedes Jones both received first place at the State Competition with their STAR Event projects and qualified for Nationals. Both girls placed first in the Leadership STAR Event with Scheel in the level 3 category and Jones in Level 2.
Branden Flowers, who was elected as the 2023-2024 SDFCCLA Vice President of Public Relations, will also be attending along with his fellow SDFCCLA State Officer Team. Flowers was also chosen to be a part of the 2023 National Leadership Conference Content Creation Team.
Although competition is their main focus, the FCCLA members will also have the chance to visit some of the many attractions Colorado has to offer, such as Pikes Peak, Red Rock Park and Amphitheater, 4th of July fireworks and a Rockies Baseball Game Look to upcoming print and e-editions for results and more coverage of their trip.
