Friends of a local family who lost their home in a fire on January 31 have launched the “Dunsmore Family Benefit Gun Raffle.” The fire razed the rural Hand County home of Rick and NaLani Dunsmore and their three children, causing them to not only lose their house and all of their belongings but also three pet cats.

Two of the family’s children are students in Wessington Springs School District and the Dunsmores said that the community at large has been generous in asking how they can help.
“We had our work clothes on and that’s all we had,” NaLani Dunsmore said in an interview the day after the fire. “We didn’t have anything, even basic supplies like a toothbrush.”
The Dunsmores are currently staying with family until more details are sorted through. An account has also been set up at Farmers and Merchants State Bank. Contributions can be made to “Dunsmore Benefit” and mailed to Farmers and Merchants State Bank, PO Box 188, White Lake, SD 57383.
