Local Volunteers Continue Santa Saturday Tradition

A Claus for Celebration

  • A visit from Santa and friends is a delight for kids of all ages. Shortly after Santa and crew arrived via fire truck, Darlene Higgins went over her Christmas wish list with Santa and his Jolly Elf while The Grinch played pranks.

  • While families waited for their visit with Santa, they enjoyed coloring Christmas pages provided by WS Senior Center volunteers. In the foreground are goody bags filled and donated to the Santa Saturday event by the Dennis and Sandy Beckman family. Each child who visits Santa leaves with their own bag of treats. Volunteers also decorated by Santa’s chair and served a free will meal during the visit.

    The history of Santa Saturday is time-honored and beloved in Jerauld County. In the most recent decade, after the Chamber dissolved, Springs Area Community Club oversaw the event. New this year, the Wessington Springs Senior/Community crew worked with the Wessington Springs Volunteer Fire Department to continue the tradition and bring the joy of a Santa visit to area children and families.
