MEET THE CANDIDATES IN THIS EDITION

Elections for School Board, Municipalities of Wessington Springs and Alpena Scheduled for April 11

Registered voters in the Wessington Springs School District, City of Wessington Springs and Town of Alpena will have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote April 11, as the three entities hold elections to fill vacant positions on their respective boards.

To prepare voters for election day, the True Dakotan has published a Candidate Forum which includes a Q&A with each candidate in this week’s print and e-edition.

Three candidates are vying for two, threeyear terms of office on the Wessington Springs School District Board of Education and include: Gwyneth R. Dean-Witte (Fastnacht), Todd Grohs and Dustin Weber.

The three-year terms of Todd Grohs and Dustin Weber will become vacant due to the expiration of present terms of office.

In Wessington Springs, a Ward 2 election will be held with Vicki Harmdierks and Mark Rosdail running for the two-year term of Harmdierks that will become vacant. Incumbent in Ward 1, Kari Fagerhaug, is unopposed. The two-year term in Ward 3 held by Tim Schooler will become vacant. With no petitions submitted for this term, the new council will fill the term with an appointment.

The 2022 school board election will be combined with the City of Wessington Springs with polling places at the Ag Building in Wessington Springs and Buffalo County Courthouse in Gann Valley.

An election will also be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2022 in Alpena for two, three-year Trustee terms on the municipality’s board. Jeff Kelsey, Gordon Knittle and Terry Nedved are running for the two positions. The offices of Gordon Knittel, Trustee, three year term and Jeff Kelsey, Trustee, three year term will become vacant due to the expiration of the present terms of office of the elective officers.

In Lane, Ed Gray ran unopposed and will continue as a board member in the three-year Trustee term.
