Pheasants Forever Donation Targets Needs of Youth Shooting Sports Program

A recent donation helped J&B Shooting Sports make big strides toward fulfilling their budget needs with a $2500 donation from the local chapter of Pheasants Forever. The funds will be used to update the club’s equipment and technology as well as meet the club’s operating expenses throughout the season.

“We are all about youth and this donation serves our mission. We focus on the three “Rs” — recruitment, retention and reactivation,” said Blake Willman, Board Treasurer of the Wessington Springs Chapter of Pheasants Forever. “Getting kids exposed to shooting activities helps the likelihood of them becoming a hunter in the future and going out to explore the outdoors.”

The club, comprised of Jerauld and Buffalo County youth, teaches kids in the areas of archery, air riffle and bb gun.

J&B Shooting Sports instructors Craig Olinger and AJ Karsky explained that they are halfway through the current season, made up of three matches. The group of kids are well on their way to advancing to state, held the third weekend of April, with about a third of the club’s members already qualified.

Olinger and Karsky thank Pheasants Forever for the generous donation and also the community for participating in the club’s fundraising raffle earlier this year, selling out 200 raffle tickets in just five days. An additional thank you from the club is published in this week's print and e-edition as a card of thanks on PAGE EIGHT
