SACOTA Welcomes Dylan Lewis as Spring Artist in Residence

SACOTA announced this week that it will sponsor and welcome Artist in Residence Dylan Lewis the week of March 18-22, 2024. He will work with Wessington Springs 4-6 graders in Mrs. Fastnacht’s music class. Students will learn the song writing process along with playing their ukuleles during this residency.

Dylan is from Lead, SD and has been playing music all his life, but didn't start playing guitar until he was 16 years old. As soon as he started playing, he knew that singing, guitar playing, and song-writing would forever be an integral part of his life.

His areas of musical expertise currently include folk, bluegrass, jazz, and oldtime music. His style is heavily influenced by the music of Doc Watson’s fine flatpicking skills, relaxed vocal style, and backwoods Appalachian folk sound. Other influences include Django Reinhardt, and Tony Rice.

In 2012 Dylan met Jami Lynn while busking on the street corner in Rapid City, SD. They formed a fruitful jazz/bluegrass/folk duo, which toured extensively and played regional festivals.

In 2017, Dylan co-founded SD band Humbletown alongside hislifepartnerMorganCarnes. Humbletown has toured South Dakota and the US extensively and played many festivals. Dylan has played with dozens of other bands during the last decade as well. He currently spends much of his time mentoring young musicians and performing for patients in a hospital setting.

This Artist in Residency is sponsored by your local arts council SACOTA and the South Dakota State Arts Council. Contact Carrie Azure and/or email SACOTA at wspringsarts@gmail.com with questions.
