Once again, the South Dakota State Library and the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks have joined forces in providing the “Check Out South Dakota State Parks” program. This program provides library patrons an opportunity to visit any South Dakota State Park or recreation area. The Wessington Springs Carnegie Library has received one entrance license (pass) for our patrons to utilize until May of 2025.
The license/pass does come with guidelines set forth by the GFP and requirements for participating libraries to follow and they include:
• You must be a patron of the WS Carnegie Library to check out an entrance license.
• Patrons may check out the entrance license for up to THREE days.
• Your three days starts at pass pickup. (If the pass is picked up on a Monday afternoon, then the return date would be Wednesday afternoon by close of business. If a pass is picked up on a Friday afternoon your pass must be returned to the library by Sunday afternoon). Since we are closed on weekends, you can leave the pass in the drop off box located in the entryway. Outside door is not locked.
• The license is on a first come first serve basis.
Patrons may reserve a pass and should pick it up the day they are planning to go to the park, not the day before. You cannot reserve one for another day.
• A patron may check out an entrance license ONCE per month.
• There are NO renewals or consecutive check outs for the entrance license.
Displaying the pass grants entrance into all state parks and recreation areas in South Dakota. Patrons just need to display their pass at an entrance station or when parked within the park, depending on the specific park they are attending.
