Orth also earns all-state honors for contributions during volleyball season
Wessington Springs High School student athletes recently received all-state and all-conference accolades for their contributions during the 2022 football and volleyball seasons.
Leading the selections from the region for the 281 All Conference Volleyball Team for the 2022 season were Wessington Springs High School (WSHS) juniors, Avery Orth and Alyssa Grohs. The Spartan Volleyball players were two of the six players selected to be on the all-conference first team.
Orth, who is ranked number 4 in Class B, has also been named to Class B All-State first team. She recorded 435 kills this season alone and is only 133 away from reaching her career 1000. She is also only 155 dings away from her 1000, had 102 blocks this year, which ranks her 2nd in the state for Class B.
Grohs recorded an impressive 749 assists this year, and is only 22 assists away from career 2000. This ranks her 5th in the state. This season, she also recorded her 1000th dig.
Along with their teammates, the Spartans also had junior, Raylee Fagerhaug, and senior, Sarah Poncelow, selected to be on the 281 All Conference third team. Fagerhaug is only 20 digs away from her career 1000.
Wrapping up the selections was junior, Carissa Scheel, who was selected to be on the all-281 Conference honorable mention list. Scheel led the team in aces with 55 on the season. She is ranked 16th in the state for Class B.
On the football side, Holden Havlik and Blake Larson were named to the SESD All-Conference Football Team with Ryder Michalek selected as Honorable Mention.
