The Wessington Springs Blue Bag Nutrition Program received a big boost this month as a result of a generous $5,000 donation from Weskota Foundation. “The Weskota Foundation Board feels it is a vital program toward food insecurity among our most vulnerable population. We are grateful to all our donors who continue to support the Weskota Foundation and our mission: To assist in the preservation of healthcare services in the Wessington Springs area,” shared Ellen Powell, Marketing & Foundation/Wellness Assistant at Avera Weskota Memorial Hospital. While Wessington Springs School District provides free or reduced meals to children at risk of hunger during the school week, it does not address the needs of children when school isn’t in session. This is where the Springs Blue Bag Nutrition Program fills an important void with its backpack program. This program provides children with nutritious, easytoprepare foods before school lets out for the weekend.
