Gifts dedicated to helping the community continue to thrive
The Wessington Springs Area Community Foundation (WSACF) recently awarded grant funds to five area non profit groups as part of its mission to help fund local organizations and projects which help keep Wessington Springs a desirable community in which to live and work, and to promote a thriving hometown for those who come to visit.
Awards for the spring grant cycle were given to: Wessington Springs Alumni Association for assistance with the ongoing expenses associated with the Wessington Springs Athletic Hall of Fame; Immanuel Baptist Church to aid with costs incurred during the AWANA Children’s Youth Ministry Program; Wessington Springs Area Chamber & Development for Wessington Springs Winter Park repairs to the warming shed at the top of the sledding hill, dirt work at the skating pond and repairs/ repainting costs for the Wessington Springs sign along SD Highway 34; Springs Blue Bag Nutrition Program to aid with the cost of food for the backpack program; and VFW Post 5548 for teener baseball.
The Wessington Springs Area Community Foundation was formed in 1997. Grant monies are generated from the interest accrued on the principal fund amount. WSACF grants are made twice a year to local charitable or nonprofit groups in one of five general areas: human service, education, economic development, health and cultural.
