Local students “Leveled Up” during a recent Accelerated Reader award ceremony held at the elementary school. Students at Wessington Springs Elementary can read books and take comprehension tests over most stories, on the computer, in the Accelerated Reader program through Renaissance. The tests range from three to ten questions depending on the level of the book.

Each book starts out at .5 points earned if all the questions are answered correctly on the test. As the book level increases, the point value also increases.

WSES has set the level to earn a plaque at 12 points. The levels that the kids earn after they receive their plaque are levels 1-12. Level 1 is earned with 50 points and the last level is 1,000 points and earns the student an academic letter.

Wessington Springs Schools extends a special thanks to WSES librarian Deanna Hasty for organizing this event and to volunteers, Peg Fagerhaug, Karen Fastnacht and Valoris Heezen who come to the school and listen to children read their books.
