Members of the Wessington Springs Volunteer Fire Department gathered for their annual Valentine’s Day supper last weekend at Sweet Grass Eatery on Main Street, to not only celebrate the collective work accomplished in the area over the last year but to also honor the Fireman of the Year.
Fire Chief Eric Schroeder (shown at left) announced that the coveted Fireman of the Year award went to Jim Vavra (pictured right).
“Jim did a phenomenal job as fire chief for over a decade running the fire department. Through his leadership, we’vebeenabletoupdateequipment,fund raise successfully, continue training and really excel as a whole across all aspects of the fire department,” Schroeder explained. “It’s no doubt to anyone on the fire department or in the community that Jim is all in when it comes to his commitment to the fire department.”
