Area Students Represent at South Dakota All-State Chorus

Students from Wolsey-Wessington and Wessington Springs showcased their musical talents at the 2025 South Dakota All-State Chorus, held October 31 - November 1, 2025 in Sioux Falls.

Seven students from Wolsey-Wessington High School auditioned for All-State Chorus this year, with four selected to perform and three named as alternates. Performing in the All-State Chorus were Kendal Uttecht (soprano), Maria Nelson (alto), Payton Peterson (tenor), and Carson Walters (bass).

Alternates Juliana Lind (alto) and Landon Jungemann (tenor) also attended All-State weekend, where they observed rehearsals and performances held in conjunction with the South Dakota Music Educators Association Conference. Arianna Langbehn (soprano) was also an alternate.

Senior Kendal Uttecht received special recognition for participating in All-State Chorus all four years of high school.

Wessington Springs’ All-State Quartet included Morgan Mentele (soprano), Maisie O’Day (alto), Brett Miller (tenor), and Nathan Gaikowski (bass).

Representing Wessington Springs High School, Brett Miller was selected to perform a featured solo on the song “Fever Dreams.” After submitting a recording, Miller advanced to the top eight finalists and was then chosen during a live audition to sing both the opening and closing sections of the piece.

This year’s All-State Chorus was under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Jeffery Redding of Florida, who was chosen as the 2019 Grammy Music educator of the year.
