The South Dakota Transportation Commission has approved new speed regulations for a section of U.S. Highway 14 near Wolsey. The updated rule, approved September 23 and filed with the Secretary of State’s Office on October 7, took effect October 27, 2025.
The change affects the area beginning 0.2 miles south of the junction of U.S. Highway 14 and Section Line Road, extending south for 1.5 miles. The new limits are as follows:
• 45 mph for the first 0.2 mile
• 35 mph for the next 0.8 mile
• 45 mph for the final 0.5 mile
The adjustment effectively moves the 45 mph zone farther from town, providing a wider lower-speed buffer for vehicles entering the Wolsey area.
