This past week the Spartans postseason kicked off at home against the James Valley Christian Vikings. They swept the Vikings 3-0 and then faced off against the 2nd seeded Castlewood Warriors on the road.

The Spartans came out on fire and took the first set 25-21. They then lost the next two sets 19-25 and 10-25 respectively. Finally, coming down to the last set the Warriors would pull away, taking the set and the game 19-25.

The Warriors then went on to beat the 23-9 Estelline-Hendricks and now face up with Northwestern in SoDak 16 with a chance at making it back to state.

As for the Spartans, the team has been through a lot and has had a lot of ups and downs throughout the year. Starting the season off 6-3 they got off to a hot start. Then a midseason stretch of going 1-9 put them in a tough spot come playoff time.

The team this year will graduate six seniors. These seniors played a crucial role in the season and were big contributors to the team. The Spartans will be bringing back four juniors, one sophomore, and one freshman next year.

Juniors Kendall Kolousek and Kaitlyn Braun had some thoughts about the future of the team looking forward.

“This season had some bumpy spots, but we all stuck together to make the best out of the season. Going forward I see a lot of potential for our team, as most of the girls still playing have had a lot of varsity playing time and understand the game of volleyball very well,” said Braun.

Kolousek added, “Moving forward, we are going to need to find some consistency. We are going to have to fill some vital spots considering we will lose some very important girls who filled those.”

Both girls shared enthusiasm going forward and are optimistic for the upcoming season.

The end of this season marks the start of new opportunities. The Lady Spartans have the talent and drive to turn those opportunities into success. With a strong core returning and lessons learned, the Lady Spartans are determined to come back stronger next season.
