Margaret Schmidt of Lane earned two awards at the 28th annual SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks Art Show, held Nov. 6–7 at the Good Samaritan Society/Sanford National Campus in Sioux Falls.
SchmidtreceivedanHonorable Mention in the Masters category for her watercolor painting “My Birthplace Home.” She also won First Place in the Masters division for drawing/pastels/ scratchboard with her piece titled “Tammy.”
The annual exhibition showcases the work of South Dakota artists age 60 and older and featured 156 entries this year, with participants ranging from 60 to 98 years old. Professional judges selected winners across seven categories in two age groups, along with additional Honorable Mentions and Best of Show awards. People’s Choice honors were determined by exhibition attendees.
She has previously placed in the SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks Art Show in a variety of mediums in contest years 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
