Recently, the student council at Wessington Springs High School (WSHS) hosted a fun winter formal for freshmen through seniors. Saturday, January 25, a good portion of the student body came together to enjoy music, dancing and food at the Rec Center.
Although the event was a success, it did not come without its difficulties.
“Getting everything organized was fine until we got to the last couple of days before the event and we realized the decorations wouldn’t be here in time,” said student council president Taylor Braun. “After finding that out, Ashlyn Weber (senior), Max Klein (junior), and I compromised and gathered all the materials together the day before. Actually setting it up went well. All representatives showed up and everyone worked nicely. Overall I thought the dance went well.”
This is only the second year that student council has hosted this event. Braun went on to discuss the attendance: “People I didn’t think would show up showed up, and it looked like they had a good time, even though some didn’t participate.”
Students from WSHS said that the dance was fun, but there weren’t as many kids participating as they would’ve liked.
As the event continues over the next few years, event organizers hope to encourage more participation and that the event continues to grow.
