The Wessington Springs Spartans picked up a decisive 70 – 38 win over Highmore-Harrold on Saturday, Jan. 3, closing out winter break play with a strong all-around performance.
Wessington Springs was led by Colby Flowers, with a game-high 28 points on an efficient 13-of-15 shooting from the field. Flowers also contributed four offensive rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots as the Spartans controlled the tempo throughout the contest.
Parker Graff added 12 points, while Luke Larson followed with 11 points and five assists. Wesley Molnar contributed seven points and five assists, helping facilitate the Spartan offense.
The Spartans also receivedsolidcontributions from Haiden Boschee and Grady Gran each scoring five points. Wessington Springs used balanced scoring, defensive pressure and rebounding to steadily build its lead and pull away in the second half.
The win came as the Spartans earned recognition in the South Dakota Prep Media boys basketball poll released Jan. 5. Wessington Springs checked in at No. 6 with a 3–2 record and 67 points. Viborg-Hurley topped the poll at 6–0, followed by De Smet, Castlewood, Sully Buttes and Aberdeen Christian. Wall, Parkston, Freeman and Deubrook Area rounded out the top 10.
This week the Spartans travel to Faulkton on January 6 and take on SBA at home Thursday, January 8. They round out the week in Ethan on Friday.
