Community Rallies to Fund Alpena FD Gear at Dueling Pianos Night

    The return of the Dueling Duo drew a crowd to the Alpena Community Center on Saturday, Feb. 7, as the Alpena Volunteer Fire Department hosted a fundraiser to support the purchase of 10 new sets of bunker gear for the department. Each set costs approximately $4,300.

    “We are grateful for all of the continued support. We had a great turnout,” said Fire Chief Ryder Schweitzer. “Small volunteer departments rely heavily on community support, and we definitely have that.”

    The Dueling Duo, Andy Gibson and Ryan Merriam (Ryno) on vocals and piano, joined by multi-instrumentalist Dan Witte, provided the entertainment as volunteer firefighters and auxiliary members helped host the event.

    Those wishing to support the department but unable to attend may mail donations to P.O. Box 41, Alpena, SD 57312.
