Four WS-W-WW Warhawks earned spots at the State Wrestling Tournament after strong performances at last week’s regional meet in Winner. From left are Wessington Springs High School sophomore Jaspur Gran, Wolsey-Wessington High School senior Ethan Rearick, Wolsey-Wessington High School junior Jacksen Carter and Wessington Springs High School sophomore Carson Finn. Carter captured a regional championship, Rearick finished runner-up, and Finn and Gran each placed third to qualify for state.
“They did great at regions. We had some hiccups and kind of fought through it, and now we’re where we need to be,” said Warhawks head coach Adam Haake. “This week we’ll sharpen the skills and keep our weight under control.”
The four qualifiers were back on the mat helping out at the Pony Hills AAU youth wrestling tournament Sunday in Wessington Springs.
The Warhawks practiced in Wessington Springs on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. before departing at 1 p.m. for the State Wrestling Tournament in Rapid City.
