American Bank & Trust has donated more than $9,900 to two area school districts through its Spirit Card program.
The bank contributed $6,161 to the Wessington Springs School District and $3,764 to the Wolsey-Wessington School District.
According to the bank, the funds are generated through use of its Spirit Card debit program, which directs a portion of transactions back to participating schools. The Wessington Springs district plans to use the funds for general education needs while Wolsey-Wessington will apply the money toward classroom books, its Humanity Launch program and other supplies.
The Spirit Card program allows customers to select a school-branded debit card tied to their checking account. Each time the card is used, a contribution is made to the selected school district.
The program includes 23 school districts across the region, including Wessington Springs and Wolsey-Wessington.
Since the program began in 2012, the bank reports it has donated more than $390,000 to participating schools.
