A new opportunity is taking shape for local student-athletes as the Spartan Trap League completes its first season.
Launched by AJ Karsky, the school-sanctioned program allows students to compete in trap shooting while earning varsity letters and potential scholarship opportunities. The league currently includes 25 area participants and offers both spring and fall seasons.
The team practices and competes Tuesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Jerauld County Trap Club, located just north of Wessington Springs. Participants are required to have a Hunter Safety License.
Community support has played a key role in getting the program off the ground, with organizers noting donations help keep the sport accessible for students. The Springs Area Community Club was among those contributing support.
Spectators are encouraged to attend Tuesday evening shoots and support the team.
