Area Memorial Day Schedule

MONDAY, MAY 25, 2026

Alpena – Owen Kunze American Legion Post 116 will have a Memorial Day Service with a speaker from the 153rd Engineer Battalion SD Army National Guard, and dedication of the new registry at the Alpena Rest Lawn Cemetery Monday, May 25, 2026, in the Alpena Community Center at 4 p.m. assisted by the Wolsey Hershman-Gordon American Legion Post 59, with a free-will offering light lunch following the program.

Crow Lake Cemetery – Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery will have 4:30 p.m. Rosary and 5 p.m. Mass at the cemetery on Monday May 25, 2026, potluck following.

Gann Valley – Memorial Day at Gann Valley begins at St. Placidus Duncan Cemetery with the Abernathy American Legion Post No. 16 posting their colors at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2026. A program will be held at the Gann Valley Fire Hall starting at 10:30 a.m. with featured speaker Gail Arnott. After the program, the American Legion will post colors at Spring Hill Cemetery followed by a potluck dinner back at the Gann Valley Fire Hall at noon. Everyone welcome.

Hope Cemetery – Memorial Day program will begin with American Legion Post No. 14 serving military rights at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, 2026, followed by speaker, Jeff Luce.

Wessington Springs – Friday morning, May 22, 2026, American Legion #14 Auxiliary will be taking donations for poppies in front of businesses on Main Street. Friday at 6:30 p.m., American Legion Post No. 14 will put flags on veterans’ graves and set up Flanders Field with crosses for Monday’s program, at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Memorial Day, May 25, 2026, American Legion members will display the Avenue of Flags at the Court House at 7 a.m. A program will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery starting at 11 a.m. with the Legion serving military rights, followed by speaker, Mike Easter. The American Legion and Auxiliary will host a potluck dinner at 12 p.m. at the Senior Center. The public is invited to participate in any or all Legion events.

Wessington – Memorial Day Program at Legion Hall 10 a.m. with potluck to follow.

Wolsey- Memorial Day Program at Legion/Community Hall, 10 a.m. with speaker Rodney Freeman. Reading of honorees at park across the street with potluck to follow.
