WESSINGTON SPRINGS SCHOOL DISTRICT
Greetings from the Wessington Springs School.
The 2025-2026 school year came to a close on Thursday, May 14. As always the year went very quickly. On Saturday, May 16 we held our high school graduation ceremony where we handed out 34 diplomas. Out of those 34 students, 29 of them were students that attended our high school in person. Five of those students were from our Cyber School. It was a wonderful ceremony with great speeches from all of our students, a great commencement speech from Amanda Radke and an outstanding performance from the High School Choir. We are very proud of our graduating seniors and wish them the best of luck in the future.
As mentioned in my last article, we have been working to fill some open positions. We are having good luck in filling some positions:
• Karissa VonEye has been hired to be math teacher at the High School/Middle School. Karissa will also be head volleyball coach.
• Jake Schneider will be the new PE/Health teacher. Along with his teaching Jake will also be the Athletic Director. He is going to be assistant football coach as well.
• Wade Powell has been hired as our Network Administrator/ Technology Director.
• Chelsea Cashman is going to be the elementary librarian. Chelsea has been with us as a paraprofessional and is now moving to the library.
• Deanna Hasty is moving from the library to the 6th grade classroom.
• Kacee Polly is going to be teaching 7th and 8th grade Math. She is also going to be doing some work with Mrs. Hasty at the 6th grade level.
• Raquel Porter was hired a couple of months ago to work in the kitchen. She is going to continue working this summer as a custodian and then next school year will work as a cook once again.
• Erik Kurth has filled the custodian/ maintenance position. We are still working on filling a couple of other positions, but so far we are excited about these hires. It has been busy interviewing and hiring staff so I hope I did not miss anyone.
This summer we do not have any major projects to be completed. Custodial staff will be working on deep cleaning the school and getting the facilities prepared for next school year. One of the things that will get completed in the next few weeks is installation of a flag pole at the Wessington Springs Elementary School.
Here is hoping all students, staff, parents and community have a great summer. It will go fast so please take time to enjoy.
