Have you noticed anything different around the library? Recently, a security camera was added, and our gutters have been cleaned out, and gutter guards have been installed. Starting this summer, the library will be undergoing updates to our heating and air conditioning system and basement lighting.
If you have not done so, there is still time. To better serve you, the Wessington Springs Carnegie Library is asking you, our community, for your valuable input on a variety of library topics. Your opinion will help us make library improvements and prioritize future projects. The survey should only take you 5 to 10 minutes to complete. All responses are optional and anonymous. You can pick up the survey at the library, the city office, or you can go to our Library Facebook page and fill it out by clicking on the survey link. You can return the survey to the library, leave it in the drop box inside the library doorway, or drop it off at the city building. Thank you to our community for your time and attention in helping us out.
In December, we shared some exciting news that “YOUR” Carnegie Library, was one of the 1280 Carnegie Libraries throughout the nation receiving a generous gift of $10,000 from the Andrew Carnegie Corporation of New York. This award is part of Carnegie Libraries 250, a special initiative celebrating the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and honoring all the Carnegie Libraries still serving their communities across the United States. I am happy to say that we have received this gift and are developing ideas on how we plan to utilize it.
Libby App users, are you aware that you have more options available to you? The SD Digital Consortium that the Wessington Springs Carnegie Library belongs to has entered an RLA (Reciprocal Lending Agreement) with two additional SD Consortiums: Siouxland Libraries and Black Hills Digital Consortium. This means you have more book options available for you to enjoy. Library staff have the instructions that you will need to utilize these new options, and you will need your WS library card number.
On a sad note, Sara Shaller has resigned from our library board so if there is any community member that is interested in being on our board, please stop by and see the library director, she would love to visit with you about it. You do need to reside within the city limits to be a member.
Just a reminder to all those young explorers out there, the Carnegie Library will be hosting the 2026 summer reading program “Unearth A Story” this summer. Our program will be held at the WS Carnegie Library on Wednesday and Thursday, July 15th & 16th and July 22nd & 23rd. Please contact the library to register your child. We cannot wait to see you there!
With book and monetary donations and with recent purchases, the library has added many new and wonderful books for you to enjoy this summer. Please come and check them out!
Have an exciting summer and please stay safe, “YOUR” Wessington Springs Carnegie Library
