Four generations of hunter safety

Last week’s HuntSAFE course wrapped up with hands-on training and a live shoot at the Jerauld County Trap Club — but one moment on the range carried a story spanning generations.

Dayle Winter and his son, Steve, helped teach Jason Weber hunter safety when Weber was a youngster. The Winters later encouraged Weber to become a HuntSAFE instructor himself. This year, Weber’s daughter, Hadley, was finally old enough to take the course, bringing that connection full circle.

There’s much more to this story. Look for a deeper dive into four generations of hunter safety in True Dakotan Outdoors, publishing Wednesday, Oct. 14. Along with need-to-know information for hunters, our annual hunting edition will take readers inside the memories and traditions that make opening season so special.
